Our belief system is based strongly on two ideas: (1) that Jesus is God's Son sent to save us and (2) that the Bible is the way in which we find Jesus. If you visit with us here at Stringtown, you will find these two basic commitments to be commonly held among our members.
Due to our commitment to doing Bible things in Bible ways and referring to Bible topics using Bible terms, we are a congregation committed to the idea that Christianity should be nondenominational. The church, as originally founded, had no earthly headquarters, human head, or universal voting overseeing body. Jesus, through the writing of the apostles and prophets (the Bible - see II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:3) was indeed the Head of the Church. Each congregation was under the oversight of an eldership (Titus 1:5). We hold these to be true for today as well.
Membership in the church today is on the same terms that it was back in the first century - faith, repentance, and baptism. According to New Testament passages on baptism, baptism is by immersion and is for remission of sins (see Acts 2:38-39, Romans 6:1-10, Gal 3:26-27).
Worship in our congregation is done in the same way as in the first century - preaching, taking the Lord's Supper, take up a contribution, praying, and singing. The singing that we do is congregational and entirely acappella.
Leadership of the congregation is spread among three elders, three deacons, and one pulpit minister.
Our attendance runs from 120-160 on most Sundays. Our congregation includes an unusually large number of teens along with young parents and their infant children. The services are fast-paced and energetic. A large video screen and smaller side screens project a PowerPoint presentation of the hymns, sermon, announcements, and Bible Class lessons. Each Sunday just after the Lord's Supper is served, the youngest are dismissed into a separate Children's Bible Hour.
Please feel free to join us for a worship service at the Stringtown Road Church of Christ. We think that there is a biblical basis to what we do... and we think you will like what you see!
